17. CAN FD

CANtrace currently supports CAN FD only for compatible Kvaser devices. See Chapter 6 Kvaser Settings for instructions on how to set up CAN FD.

The current CAN FD implementation is somewhat limited in functionality:

  • CAN FD messages of arbitrary length can be received, decoded and displayed in the Trace, Data and Graph tabs.
  • The Send tab supports sending CAN FD messages up to 8 bytes in length.
  • The Statistic tab is able to distinguish between classic CAN and CAN FD frames.
  • CAN FD messages can be logged to file.
  • CAN FD log files can be played back.
  • DBC logging and Python scripting for CAN FD messages are not supported.
